Frequently Asked Questions
Common
Of course you may take pictures in and around our trams, as long as it’s done in a safe way at a location that is open to the public.
Alongside our own heritage line, for example, you may not walk the tracks, but you can take pictures at level crossings.
Please bear in mind the following:
- Never enter a building or tram without permission, our staff is more than happy to allow acces when asked.
- Watch your own safety and don’t take pictures in a position or location you may bring harm to yourself or others.
- Always follow instructions/directions from our staff. These are not mere “suggestions”.
- “No” is also an answer. Maybe not the answer you’d like to hear, but an answer none the less.
- If you take pictures that include other people, it is not just a courtesy to ask for permission, it’s required by law.
Rarely. Sometimes we can get a small fund for the (partial) restoration of a tram as a project. More often than not we have to fund everything ourselves.
The majority of the funds that we collect with our rolling heritage stock that we manage, we pay for by means of ticket sales, rent-a-tram, donations by friends and donors and legacies.
Because we are an ANBI (Non-Profit / NGO), donations are tax-deductable in the Netherlands.
Visiting
Yes and No. For special events you buy tickets online either via Get-Your-Guide or SocialDeals.
When it comes to our normal timetable, the City Tour (line 20) and our Heritage line (line 30), there is no online reservation possible. Tickets are sold in the Tram by the conductor, and you get an authentic ticket which is also a lovely souvenir. This is how it was done when our trams were in active service, and that is how we like to continue the tradition.
If you are with a large(r) group, it may be worth it to look into renting a private tram.
No. We might be old-fashioned, but we do have to adapt some modern payment processing into our operations.
We have mobile PIN-terminals with us, so you can pay by cash or card. We accept most common debit/credit cards.
We accept:
Rent-a-tram
The process, in a nutshell, is as follows:
- You book one or more trams with us.
- We confirm with you the date, time, location, trams route and quote. If you have any special requests we also include who and what regarding these requests and if we can accommodate them either partially or as a whole.
- We will send you a final confirmation, from that moment onward, the booking is definitive.
- In the weeks leading up to the event we will send you the boarding information with all details and special information regarding the booking and event.
- The event will take place.
- After the event is completed you will receive the final invoice.
If you wish to book a ride, you can do this here. If you want/need more information, please contact our bookings-team.
Volunteers
We have volunteers in all age-groups. Some even younger than 16, with permission from their parents. These volunteers help with maintenance and restoration and get assigned to jobs based on their skill level and willingness to learn. We care for our volunteers, and if willing you can learn a lot!
However if you wish to become a conductor or driver, the minimum is 18 years, and for a driver you need a valid driving licence (European).
We are very proud to inform you that we are a 100% volunteer based operation, including the managing directors.
For some services our staff can get a compensation for travel expenses. And even if they have the right to such a compensation our staff often proudly waves the right to receive these compensations.
Are you looking to become a volunteer? We are always interested. Even if you think you may have nothing to offer, we may surprise you yet! Did we catch you interested? Great! We love to hear from you. Please do bear in mind that a basic level of the Dutch Language is required to prevent disappointment.
